Mission
Mt Shasta Nordic Ski Organization is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting Nordic skiing through educational outreach and the development and enhancement of Nordic skiing facilities and trail systems in the Mt Shasta, California area.

History
Mt Shasta Nordic was formed in early 2006 by members of the Mt Shasta area Nordic community who recognized that the Nordic skiing infrastructure Northern California could be preserved and enhanced by a community group passionate about cross-country skiing. With the intention of benefiting generations to come, we set our scope of influence to encompass those who have yet to discover the joys and benefits of Nordic skiing. Our intention is to create, enhance, and preserve Nordic skiing opportunities for all ages and abilities. By facilitating participation in education programs, competitive events, and Nordic skiing as a fun, health-beneficial, aerobic activity, we aim to enhance the legacy of Nordic Skiing in our community.

Goals
Mt. Shasta Nordic Ski Organization intends & strives to:

  • Develop and provide Nordic trails to a broad range of skiers: from marked & unmarked backcountry routes, to beginner & intermediate recreational trails, to challenging skate & diagonal groomed trails suitable for the development of competitive athletes.
  • Create and maintain functional facilities: basic "warming hut" structures, picnic sites and resting areas, appropriate signage, toilet and parking facilities, full-featured day lodge providing services & amenities.
  • Provide high-quality and varied outdoor recreational opportunities and experiences to all segments of the population, with specific efforts to include youth, elder, financially limited, health impaired.
  • Provide social events that attract new participants to Nordic skiing and foster community. Provide competitive events appealing to elite and casual participants alike.
  • Develop a youth Nordic ski program to introduce cross-county skiing to area youth, improve their Nordic ski skills, engender a habit of aerobic fitness, and provide opportunities to participate in competitive ski events.
  • Promote Nordic skiing as an environmentally friendly activity, beneficial to mental and physical health.
  • Lead others to discover the exhilaration of exercise, the love of winter, the friendly spirit of competition, the beauty of outdoors, and an appreciation for nature.
  • Represent and respond to the wishes of members and the Nordic community at large with consideration for environmental responsibility, fiscal prudence, and operational sustainability.
